Cute as a Daisy Crocheted Coasters
These cute little coasters are so quick to make, a set of six takes about an hour while watching a good TV show.
They make lovely gifts, as a thank you or as a part of a hamper.
Being cotton they are absorbent, and wash and dry very quickly.
With the range of crochet cotton colours you could do a set for every day of the week, and every special occasion.
I use 4 ply crochet cotton. One 50g ball (about 145 metres) makes 12 coasters.
The cotton I use (currently as of October 2023) costs $2.88 a ball, making a set of 6 coasters just $1.44 or just 24 cents each. I purchase this yarn from Arthur Daley's, a discount store in Melbourne.
You will need:
4 ply crochet cotton
3.5mm crochet hook
Make a magic circle.
Row 1. Chain 3 and work 19 double crochet into the magic circle. To join, slip stitch into the top of the third chain to form a loop.
Row 2. Chain 3. Work 1 double crochet into the next chain, 2 chain, 2 double crochet into the next two chain. Work 2 double crochet into the next two chain, chain 2, 2 double crochet into the next 2 chain. Repeat to end. Slip stitch into the top of the third chain. to join.
Row 3. Slip stitch along to the 2 chain space. Chain 3, 1 couble crochet, Chain 2, 2 double crochet into the space, then 2 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochet into the next space. Repeat to end. Slip stitch into the top of the third chain. to join.
Row 4. Chain 3. Insert hook into chain 2 space and slip stitch. This drags the chain 3 down. Work 6 double crochet into the next space, 1 single crochet into the chain 2 space. Repeat to end. To join, insert hook into the top of the chain 3, pull through and tie off.
Weave in ends.
